OISM

Chokri Ghouili — Brother in Allah

Chokri Ghouili & Tristano Ajmone
Turin, November 7th, 2005.

Chokri Ghouili & Tristano Ajmone

“If Othman (Tristano) is mad,
then... welcome madness!”

— Chokri Ghouili,
Muslim.

BEWARE!

On the dawn of the 8th of November 2005, Chokri was dragged from his home and send back to Tunisia by the Italian authorities because considered «persona non grata».

The motivations for such a decision will remain a mystery for those who knew Chokri.

Chokri has sustained thoroughly OISM’s mission, and all of us will remember him as a great friend and a person who longed for peace amongst the people and religions.

I can hardly think of anyone less contaminated by prejudice than Chokri: a man who has proven to love his neighbours regardless of their religious creed, nationality or race.

The day before his expulsion, Chokri and I took this photograph together and he gave me his phrase to insert in this page in sustain of my campaigns. This umpteenth act of solidarity is the last memory that he has left me.

I don’t know if we’ll ever meet again Chokri... but I hope that you will see this page and get to know that I love you in Allah and that I’ll miss you!

Thank you Chokri!

“Chokri believed in OISM.
This, as far as I am concerned,
is a proof of nobleness of mind
and intellectual honesty.”

— Dr. Claudio Ajmone

“Chokri is a man free from any prejudice.
In his company, I always felt like
a friend, a man, never a Jew.
Every chat we had was an
occasion of growth,
never of conflict.”

— Luca Bistolfi, writer and journalist.

“Chokri nurtured and promoted
ideals of social solidarity.
He consulted me several times
for advice pertaining the third sector,
and through his questions I could see
his desire to help others.”

— Monica Schaffer,
Heading for a Doctorate in Social Politics.
